Residual Host Cell Protein
Host Cell Proteins (HCPs) are a generic term for those proteins produced by the cells used to manufacture a recombinant protein. These proteins are necessary for the cellular function and can vary between one product and another. Typically these proteins would be expected to be in very small quantities. Much of the downstream processing effort (and cost) is taken by the manufacturers of recombinant proteins to remove these.
At early stage clinical trials a simple generic ELISA is used to quantitate the amount of protein in a sample. BioOutsource offers the following assays using the Cygnus ELISA kits:
- Vero (Primate) F500
- CHO (Chinese Hamster) F550
- HEK 293 (Human) F650
- E.coli (Bacterial) F410
